The first official teaser for Disney's live-action remake of Mulan is finally here and it doesn't mess around with the action sequences. Liu Yifei is immediately thrust into some impressive fights where the legendary warrior clearly shines.
The teaser opens with Hua Mulan (Liu) riding her horse home and getting some excellent news from her mother (Rosalind Chao). "The matchmaker has found you an auspicious match," her mother says but it doesn't look like Mulan is too happy about it. Her father Hua Zhou (Tzi Ma) senses her disappointment and tells her, "It is decided. Come and sit down."
"It is what is best for our family," he continues. Mulan, despite being unsure of herself, answers, "Yes, I will bring honor to us all."
We are immediately given a rundown of what qualities a good wife should have as Mulan is shown swinging her sword and joining the army. It is clear that she has amazing fighting skills but will she bring honor to her family?
The official description for Mulan reads as follows:
"When the Emperor of China issues a decree that one man per family must serve in the Imperial Army to defend the country from Northern invaders, Hua Mulan, the eldest daughter of an honored warrior, steps in to take the place of her ailing father. Masquerading as a man, Hua Jun, she is tested every step of the way and must harness her inner-strength and embrace her true potential. It is an epic journey that will transform her into an honored warrior and earn her the respect of a grateful nation…and a proud father"
Mulan is scheduled for release on March 27, 2020.
