Disney's Bob Iger Hints More Movies Could Head Straight to Disney+

The film industry has taken a hit by the coronavirus pandemic, and Disney is not an exception. Since movie theaters are closed, people are advised to practice social distancing and self-quarantine, which makes streaming the only option to watch new movies or shows. Disney has various movies set for release and the Artemis Fowl adaptation will already be heading straight to Disney+. Now, it looks like more Disney movies could potentially follow.

"There are some we've decided to put on Disney+. We already announced one, Artemis Fowl, that would have been released in theaters," Iger told Barron's. "Others we've simply delayed."

Iger also pointed out that there are some cases where movies would get into the streaming service faster, like Frozen 2, as well as Onward, which he considers as the "biggest example" of that situation.

"In terms of movies going ahead after Artemis, there may be a few more that we end up putting directly onto Disney+," Iger added. "But for the most part, a lot of the big tentpole Disney films, we'll simply wait for slots. In some cases, we've announced new ones already, but later on in the calendar."

It's unclear which of these films are seen as viable options for an early Disney+ release. That said, Disney's Marvel films have already pushed back their release dates so they are already out of the picture, there's the chance that it could be Pixar's Soul or New Mutants. Though the latter could be considered too dark for the streaming platform.
