Disney Whistleblower Claims Company Has Been Lying About Billions In Revenue For Years

Earlier this month, we learned that Disney was having a bit of a problem with its Disneyland theme park, blaming low guest attendance on the newly opened Star Wars: Galaxy Edge. However, while it's pretty clear that the Star Wars theme park failed to draw in as many guests as one would have expected, new reports reveal that Disney may have been lying about its revenue for a while now.

According to a report by Market Watch, there are allegations saying that the Mickey Mouse House has been overstating its revenue for years now. The company hasn't just been making slight changes to its numbers – apparently, Disney has been overstating its revenue for billions of dollars as much as $6 billion in a single year.

These allegations were made by Sandra Kuba, a former senior financial analyst assigned to the company's revenue operations unite. Kuba filed a series of whistleblower tips to the US Securities and Exchange commission tips that include a report that says Disney parks and resorts have had false revenue reports for its complimentary golf grounds, its gift cards, free guest promotions, and even hotel rooms.

The whistleblower says that the overstated profit goes back as far as 2008 to 2009. Kuba says that she has informed Disney about these overstatements back in 2013 and in 2016, however, her concerns regarding the issue were dismissed by the Mickey Mouse House.

Instead, a Disney spokesperson says that the Kuba's claims were thoroughly reviewed by the company and that they were found to be "utterly without merit."

Could Disney have really been lying about its profits though, to make it seem like it was doing better than it actually was?

What we know for sure though is that Disney is having a great time at the box office, enjoying the success of films like The Lion King and Avengers: Endgame.

Avengers: Endgame is available on Digital HD, Blu-Ray, and DVD.
