Disney Unleashes First Image Of Emma Stone As Cruella De Vil

It looks like Maleficent isn't the only Disney villain who will be getting her own standalone film. The new image from the planned Cruella de Vil movie offers a glimpse at Emma Stone as the fur-loving fashionista.

The image was unveiled at the D23 Expo 2019 where it was also confirmed that the film is currently in production. Check it out below.

We don't know much about Cruella just yet although it was revealed that it would be set in the 1970s and would have a punk rock feel. The movie will also star Emma Thompson, Paul Walter Hauser, and Joel Fry.

It certainly looks like Cruella will be similar to Maleficent where the villain's origins will be explored. Perhaps it will answer some very important questions like, how did she get started collecting fur coats, how many fur coats does she own, and what's with the obsession with dalmatians?

We all know Cruella as the antagonist who wanted to turn a bunch of innocent little puppies into a fur coat in the animated 1961 classic 101 Dalmatians. However, she was created by author Dodie Smith in the book The Hundred and One Dalmatians on which the film is based on. Cruella has been played by Glenn Close in the 1996 live-action movie and Wendy Raquel Robinson in Descendants.

The spin-off movie might seem strange but it could be a huge hit if it follows in Maleficent's footstep. Maybe there was a time that Cruella loved animals and we'll probably see that side of her in this film.

Disney's Cruella is scheduled for release on May 28, 2021.
