Disney Plus Confirms Ad-Supported Version Arriving This Year

Since Disney Plus entered into the streaming service scene, it has been one of the most successful platforms to date and as it continues to grow, it has been confirmed that there would be an ad-supported subscription which will be added as an option for those who would like to subscribe for a plan and it would be arriving later this year in the US while it would be out internationally by 2023.

Disney has announced that there would be an ad-supported version coming up on the streaming platform and Kareem Daniel, the Chairman of Disney Media and Entertainment Distribution, did the honors for the announcement, as reported by CBR, "Expanding access to Disney+ to a broader audience at a lower price point is a win for everyone - consumers, advertisers, and our storytellers."

Daniel also shared how much the consumers would be able to gain access to with the implementation of the ad-supported version, "More consumers will be able to access our amazing content. Advertisers will be able to reach a wider audience, and our storytellers will be able to share their incredible work with more fans and families."

Rita Ferro, the President of Advertising in Disney Media and Entertainment Distribution, pointed out that the demand is what made them decide to have an ad-supported offer, "Since its launch, advertisers have been clamoring for the opportunity to be part of Disney+ and not just because there’s a growing demand for more streaming inventory."

Ferro added, "Disney+ with advertising will offer marketers the most premium environment in streaming with our most beloved brands, Disney, Pixar, Star Wars, Marvel, and National Geographic. I can’t wait to share more with advertisers at the Upfront."

The ad-supported version of Disney Plus also plays a part to reach the goal of the streaming platform to secure around 230 to 260 million subscribers by the time 2024 arrives. At the end of 2021, Disney Plus totaled almost 130 million subscribers worldwide.

The cost of the ad-supported Disney Plus subscription and the official launch date is yet to be announced. Other streaming offers remain the same and they will still be priced at $7.99 per month or $79.99 per year.

Arriving just in time before the pandemic, Disney Plus has been a go-to subscription video-on-demand over-the-top streaming platform that has been more popularized when the whole world was sent to retreat inside due to the COVID-19 virus.

Disney Plus is the home of Marvel, Star Wars, Disney+, Pixar, ESPN, and National Geographic where the latest release of the aforementioned, may it be movies, series, or limited releases comes out on the streaming platform. Shows that can be found on Disney Plus are more often than not exclusive to the streaming service and therefore, the only way to catch these shows.
