Disney Pledges $5M to NAACP, NPOs Supporting Social Justice

The Walt Disney Company has confirmed that they are supporting equality with a powerful move. The House of Mouse has announced that it will pledge $5 million to nonprofit organizations that advance social justice. Their first step towards that is a $2 million donation to the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP).

The official Walt Disney Company website published a statement confirming the pledge. In addition to that, Disney CEO Bob Chapek addressed the company's cause.

"The killing of George Floyd has forced our nation to once again confront the long history of injustice that black people in America have suffered, and it is critical that we stand together, speak out and do everything in our power to ensure that acts of racism and violence are never tolerated," Chapek said. "This $5 million pledge will continue to support the efforts of nonprofit organizations such as the NAACP that have worked tirelessly to ensure equality and justice."

The announcement also confirmed that Disney has "previously provided millions of dollars in grants to help students from underrepresented groups make the dream of higher education a reality, including $2.5 million to the United Negro College Fund."

For now, all of Disney's major productions are on hold due to the coronavirus outbreak. Unfortunately, this means that the company's profits are still uncertain at the moment. Nevertheless, the House of Mouse is clearly standing by the move in support of the Black Lives Matter movement.
