Disney Pledges $5 Million To Help Rebuild Notre-Dame Cathedral

Earlier this week the world mourned as footage of the Notre-Dame Cathedral going up in flames in the middle of Paris began circulating on the news and on social media. The Notre-Dame is one of the most iconic churches in history, and the building broke out in fire causing severe damage to the building.

The fire was extinguished 15 hours after it started, keeping the frame of the building intact. However, it's going to cost a lot of money to rebuild the cathedral. Luckily, a lot of big companies and organizations have banded together, donating to help rebuild the Notre-Dame. This includes the Walt Disney Company which has pledged $5 million dollars to help the Church see to the restoration of the edifice.

"Notre-Dame is a beacon of hope and beauty that has defined the heart of Paris and the soul of France for centuries, inspiring awe and reverence for its art and architecture and for its enduring place in human history," Disney CEO Bob Iger wrote in a statement that went along with the pledge (via ComicBook.com). "The Walt Disney Company stands with our friends and neighbors in the community, offering our heartfelt support as well as a $5 million donation for the restoration of this irreplaceable masterpiece."

Of course, Disney's support for the Notre-Dame doesn't come as quite a surprise. After all, it was the setting of the animated movie The Hunchback of Notre Dame which was based on Victor Hugo's novel. For those who aren't familiar with the film, The Hunchback of NotreDame told the story of Quasimodo, the cathedral's disfigured bell-ringer who was desperate for acceptance and love.

Right now there is no word on the cause of the fire at the Notre-Dame Cathedral however we'll update everyone as soon as we get word.
