Disney+ Already Has More Than 28 Million Subscribers

It looks like Disney is gaining a stronger foothold on the streaming business because Disney+ now has more than 28 million subscribers.

Disney just recently had an investors call this week, and during the meeting (via Screen Rant), Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger discussed the momentum that the Mickey Mouse House has had with Disney+. It hasn't been four months since the streaming site's launch, but as of February 3, it looks like Disney+ now has 28.6 million subscribers scattered throughout the United States, Canada, Netherlands, and New Zealand.

That's a whole lot of subscribers. It might not seem much when compared to Netflix and its 167 million subscribers worldwide (with 61 million of that in the US), but it's a pretty great start, especially for a site that's only been on for three months or so.

The success of Disney+ has been attributed to the success of Star Wars: The Mandalorian, Jon Favreau's Star Wars live-action series that has gained both critical and commercial success thanks to the charm of Pedro Pascal's Mando and of course, thanks to Baby Yoda.

Disney just recently announced its plans for the Star Wars franchise, saying that the future of the galaxy far, far away is all but in television.

Aside from The Mandalorian, fans can also look forward to Lucasfilm's other projects like the Rogue One: A Star Wars Story spinoff series focused on Diego Luna's Captain Cassian Andor and the Obi-Wan Kenobi series promising the return of Ewan McGregor.

Aside from Star Wars, Disney also has a number of Marvel live-action series in development like The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, WandaVision, Loki, Hawkeye, Ms. Marvel, Moon Knight, She-Hulk, and of course the animated series, What If?

We can only imagine these series making Disney+ even stronger than it already is.
