We all know for a fact that Disney was once viewed by diehard fans of the Star Wars franchise as the culprit for the franchise's decline but to the House of Mouse's credit, they did everything right with the first two films that came out under its banner. Following the success of The Force Awakens, Disney would somehow maintain its momentum with Rogue One: A Star Wars Story which is often considered the most underrated film the franchise has put out.

The 2016 film felt like a breath of fresh air during the time of its release, because not only did it introduce fans to a bunch of new characters, but it also featured arguably the most iconic Star Wars ending in recent memory. The film killed off its main characters, ending with the destruction of Scarif where the lead protagonists Jyn Erso and Cassian Andor fell to their demise, erasing any possibility of Lucasfilm giving fans a sequel.

Over the last six years, there have been theories and speculation surrounding the status of Jyn and Cassian, with Star Wars conspiracists insisting that they managed to survive the film's jaw-dropping events. Well, Diego Luna finally put the rumor to rest and he pretty much confirmed that his character in fact died.

Speaking with Vanity Fair, the Andor star said: "So this is basically the reason why I was so happy to play this role and so excited about the idea of being part of this universe because I thought it was so bold, so interesting so unique to have an ending like this, you know? And there's been a lot, I mean, I remember people saying we shot different endings, and just to be clear, the day I was offered this role I knew this was it. It was one film and I knew what the end was gonna be. And it's one of the things that excited me the most, that Star Wars was gonna do that, was gonna show what sacrifice means and was gonna go for it."

Diego continued: "I thought it was a very smart move...I remember having to answer the question of like, 'Oh, how does it feel? How long are you gonna be in Star Wars? How many films you're gonna do?' and I just couldn't answer, you know? But I knew that was it. And in fact, it made complete sense that I was just there for one film."

I guess that settles the debate and unfortunately, those hoping for a Rogue One sequel must move on from their collective desires to see a sequel. But at least Lucasfilm is giving us prequels, right?
