We now have even more questions and things to speculate about as Dexter: New Blood Season 1 Episode 4 airs on Showtime next week. This time, it has everything to do with Kurt Caldwell. Why is he lying in the first place? Matt's father told Jim Lindsay that they communicated — they even Face-Timed! — at the end of Episode 3.

Dexter’s First Kill

Dexter Morgan returned to his serial killer life in Dexter: New Blood Episode 1 after a decade off of killing. Matt Caldwell, a rash and entitled 30-year-old Iron Lake resident who Dexter learned was responsible for the deaths of five individuals, was his first victim.

Dexter is having a harder time than ever before hiding his traces and evading suspicion for Matt's murder as a rusty killer. While Dexter had come dangerously close to getting caught at Iron Lake, especially because his girlfriend Angela is the chief of police, the pressure appeared to be building when Kurt arrived.

The reappearance of Matt's father, as one of the most powerful and respected members of New Blood's Iron Lake, prompted an intensified push for Iron Lake PD to beef up their task force and investigate any possibilities of Matt's disappearance or death.

While it appeared that Iron Lake's cops were coming closer to discovering the truth about Matt's death after hiring a forensic expert and examining infrared cameras in the woods, New Blood Episode 3 ended with Dexter seemingly getting away with murder.

Is Kurt Hiding Something?

Of course, there is still one significant question to consider here: Why? Is there anything more he's trying to hide? Following the conclusion of the previous episode, there is a reason for this. Remember how in this episode, someone dressed like Kurt shot a woman out in the woods after previously rescuing her from her bunker? After that, it appeared as if she was being embalmed. If Kurt is a serial killer, he may have to go to whatever lengths to keep people out of danger.

And Olsen? This is someone else to consider as a major character in the story right now. We've seen this man do some weird stuff, especially with Angela's daughter Audrey. There's a lot to unpack here, and we'll have to wait and see what happens.

What to Expect

Dexter: New Blood Season 1 Episode 4 will most likely find Dexter conducting his own investigation into Matt's death, as he did previously. With Kurt's lie most likely being that he doesn't want the police to find his deadly secrets, it's possible Dexter may stumble upon his burial spot himself.
