Dexter: New Blood, the highly anticipated sequel to the original Showtime series, reintroduced fans to Dexter Morgan, who, 10 years later, is a little different than they may recall.

Michael C. Hall, the series' star, recently pondered on how his character has evolved over the years, emphasizing his opinion that Dexter is not totally a sociopath.

"He's someone who's been contending with the collateral damage of his behavior," Hall said in an interview with Variety. "If Dexter were a total sociopath, he would've disappeared from Miami and just continued killing. But the fact is, he hasn't.

“He has some sense of responsibility that he's taking. He's telling himself a story about himself that is quite different from the one he was telling when we met him way back when. He does refer to himself as a monster, but an evolving monster."

Dexter Breaks His Streak

Dexter was last seen putting his sister off life support, faking his death, and abandoning his young kid and girlfriend. The much-maligned climax was a gut hit to fans who had spent eight years following the serial killer's growth and emergence as a human being.

Hall and showrunner Clyde Phillips have both voiced regret at Dexter's finale. In an interview, Hall called the finale "pretty unsatisfying," revealing that he questioned, "'What the hell happened to that guy?'"

Dexter ultimately breaks his 10-year streak in New Blood when he kills Kurt Caldwell, the son of one of the town's most well-known residents, who is himself a killer and the subject of an active investigation into many missing girls in the area.

His normal life is often interrupted by flashbacks to his Dark Passenger and the desire to kill again, which is complicated when his estranged son, Harrison, seeks him out and begins to live with him. Dexter is concerned about his son's raging qualities in the most recent episodes of the reboot show.

What Will Happen Next in Dexter: New Blood?

Dexter: New Blood is past halfway through the season, and with only three episodes remaining and several unresolved storylines, it will be intriguing to see if Dexter will continue to progress as a person or if he will simply be back where he started as a killer.

Angela needed Dexter's forensics expertise after stumbling upon the body of her childhood friend in the most recent episode, which ended with Dexter exposing his true identity to Angela. Dexter is also concerned about Kurt's influence on Harrison, as he is becoming more dependent on his advice. It'll be fascinating to see how all of these threads intertwine and what the final result is.
