Deborah Ann Woll Opens Up Doing Double Duty For Marvel and DC

Appearing in both Marvel and DC is no longer a unique experience for some actors, including Ryan Reynolds, Idris Elba, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Angela Bassett, among others. But to do double duty for both franchises, the actor must have been asked by the company first.

Deborah Ann Woll portrayed Karen Page in the Marvel series Daredevil, The Defenders, and The Punisher. Now that the narrative will continue in the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again, fans are expecting that the actress will also return, but she’s not.

It was announced last year that Woll alongside Elden Henson will not be returning for the prequel despite their massive importance to the show and in the comics. Sitting down recently at the ICCCon Q&A panel, Woll addressed her future at Marvel.

The actress was asked if she’d like to join the DCU given that her future at Marvel is uncertain after the news of her expected absence on Daredevil: Born Again. “Am I allowed to cross the streams? I feel like that would be very dangerous... “ she said.

Woll continued: “There are a few people who can do it. But I don't know that I'm one of those lucky few. I don't know about DC. You know, this was so cool to be a part of this series. And I think, you know, it was such a unique little corner of the MCU that felt really special…”

“I'm really happy with what I've had and there's no, you know, no plans for me so far on either side of the comic book universe... but I'm so grateful for the experience that I had.” the actress concluded.

What is Daredevil: Born Again about?

No exact plot details have been revealed but according to some rumors, the sequel might follow what Den of Geek calls “one of Daredevil’s best stories — and one his bleakest.”

Based on the comics, the story begins with Daredevil’s secret identity being sold to the Kingpin, and he ends up homeless, broke, and hopeless, leading him to fight and get his life back on track.

Original cast members Charlie Cox, Vincent D’Onofrio, and Jon Bernthal have been confirmed to return, alongside newcomers Nikki M. James, Michael Gandolfini, Margarita Levieva, and Sandrine Holt.

Daredevil: Born Again is expected to premiere in 2024.
