Deadpool Creator Rob Liefeld Walks Away From Youngblood After 20 Years

Rob Liefeld is mostly known for Deadpool and X-Force these days but back in the ‘90s, he tried to make some original creations. One of those creations seemed to be Youngblood, which was one of his babies from Image Comics and proved to be semi-popular, being the subject of a number of reboots and relaunches. However, it turns out that Liefeld has walked away from the franchise for the first time in 20 years because he actually doesn't own the series.

On Facebook, the longtime comic book artist revealed that the series had been co-owned by Scott Rosenberg, who had helped finance Liefeld's now-defunct Awesome Comics. After the series failed to get two movie deals in 2017, Rosenberg decided to sell the rights to Youngblood comics and toys to someone else named Andrew Rev. It's actually a bit more complicated than that but you can read all the nit and gritty details on Liefeld's Facebook.

Apparently, a disrespectful conversation with Rev led to Liefeld leaving the franchise for good, with the series no longer being published by Image Comics. The fate of these characters is unknown but we can only assume that a number of comic publishers would love to get their hands on it. It's pretty surreal knowing that Liefeld won't be involved with this series anymore and that's pretty tragic, given how attached he was to these characters.
