One of the many DCU projects that are in the works is Superman: Legacy, the James Gunn-penned reboot of the Man of Steel that was formally announced by DC Studios when they unveiled their first slate for the franchise earlier this week. The project is already slated for release in 2025 as the DCU's first film.
With the exit of Henry Cavill a while ago, we do know at this point that the DCU version of Superman will be recast and played by a different actor since Gunn revealed that the character will be younger. So how old will the new Man of Steel in the DCU be? Now, we have an idea.
A report from The Hollywood Reporter revealed that the DCU's Clark Kent/Superman that will be introduced in Superman: Legacy is going to be around the age of 25. It is obviously way younger than Cavill, who is currently 39 years old.
During their unveiling of the DCU slate at the recent press event, Gunn addressed their decision to not retain Cavill in the role of Superman where he called out the previous regime for the treatment of the actor in the franchise.
"I like Henry, I think he’s a great guy. I think he’s getting dicked around by a lot of people, including the former regime at this company. But this Superman is not Henry, for a number of reasons," he said.
The role of Superman is certainly going to be the most sought-out role for actors in their 20s around Hollywood for the next couple of months as we're getting closer to its potential pre-production date ahead of its summer 2025 release. It is interesting to see who they'll end up casting on the role.
The project also doesn't have an official director yet at the moment although there are speculations that Gunn will take the job since he is writing the screenplay and it would be an opportunity for them to start the franchise with a huge splash. We should be hearing more about that in the coming months.
