DC Studios Boss Puts 'The Flash Resets the DCU' Rumor To Rest

DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn has officially released the new slate for Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters which is set to be the first wave of projects in the upcoming DCU.

However, before moving forward with the new slate, DC will be starting off this year with Shazam! Fury of the Gods, The Flash, Blue Beetle, and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Rumor has it that since The Flash is featuring the multiverse of DCU, the film is also set to reboot the franchise canon. Gunn debunks the aforementioned rumor in an Instagram post. James Gunn responds to a confused fan asking how the new DC Universe really works, seeing as Viola Davis is still playing Amanda Waller in spite of the initial claim of 100% reboot: “The Flash resets many things, not all things. Some characters remain the same, some do not.”

Keeping this in mind, Gunn initially announced this January 2023 that The Flash would serve as a “soft reboot” or in his words, “reset everything” which apparently came out to be an overstatement given his new clarification on what he meant.

While DC fans find it disappointing that The Flash is still keeping Ezra Miller’s intact in spite of his controversy, and had to watch Henry Cavill exit from Man of Steel 2, there is no doubt that the new DC slate looks promising, given that Gunn has definitely taken his time before revealing the line-up in rebooting the DC Universe.

In light of this, Gunn apparently took notes from Kevin Feige from his years of working for Marvel, as brought up by one of the DC Studios writers who had nothing but praise for the new DC Head. The multiverse is no new concept, but it could potentially clash with the MCU, which could eventually lead to the intertwined fates of the two franchises sometime in the future. But for now, we’ll have to wait until Gunn unfolds everything.
