It's no secret that The Mandalorian has become the success that it is thanks to Jon Favreau's brilliant mind and Star Wars veteran Dave Filoni's decision to finally jump into the live-action scene. But according to the Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels director, he never would've gained the confidence to venture into the live-action universe if not for one person whom he credits for giving him all the inspiration he needed and then some.

According to The Art of The Mandalorian book, Filoni's interest in joining Star Wars' live-action franchise experienced a huge turning point on the set of The Last Jedi in early 2016. Filoni recalls: "Rian Johnson had me right up next to him with the camera. He shoved lenses in my hand and said, 'Look through here.' He would bring me along to show me how to block a scene. Rian was so supportive of my interest in doing live-action, as was his producer, Ram Bergman. They really made me feel like this was something that I could do."

Of course, we're all aware by now how longtime fans of the franchise share mixed feelings about Johnson's work in the Skywalker Saga over the years. Give credit where credit is due though because even though his only film in the franchise The Last Jedi turned out to be a pretty divisive offering, you can't deny that Episode VIII is definitely a visual stunner and it's unlike anything we've seen before in the Star Wars universe. Filoni might've gotten a few pointers from Rian's style that he would later integrate into The Mandalorian.

Speaking of, The Mandalorian Season 2 is now streaming on Disney+.
