Dark Phoenix Star Sophie Turner Compares Jean Grey And Sansa Stark From GOT

X-Men: Dark Phoenix's Jean Grey might live in a very different world from Game of Thrones' Sansa Stark, however Sophie Turner believes that the two have one thing in common: female empowerment.

There's been a move for diversity and representation in cinema today, and we can certainly feel that in films like X-Men: Dark Phoenix, Wonder Woman, Black Panther, and Captain Marvel. Speaking in an HBO interview, Turner compares the roles she's played in Dark Phoenix and in Game of Thrones.

In Dark Phoenix, fans are going to find a version of Jean Grey who longer wants to be oppressed and controlled, much like the arc that Sansa took in the last two seasons of HBO's fantasy epic.

Speaking in an interview with HBO, Turner describes both Jean and Sansa as strong, indenpendent women.

"I'm always drawn to strong, independent women and Sansa and Jean are both that," the actress said during the interview (via CBR)."They eventually use all of these terrible things that happened to them and they become incredibly strong women."

Jean Grey might be the villain in Dark Phoenix, but fans have to remember that the character feels betrayed and no longer wants to be under the control of her mentor figure and teacher, Charles Xavier (James McAvoy). In the last two seasons of Game of Thrones, Sansa showed the same sort of rebellion. The eldest daughter of House Stark didn't want to take orders from Jon (Kit Harrington) and from Daenerys (Emilia Clarke). The only difference is that Sansa is more self-assured than Jean is in Dark Phoenix.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix is set for release June 7.
