A lot of fans were delighted when John Kransinki showed up in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness as Reed Richards, a member of the Illuminati in Earth-838. The actor has been fan cast on the role for years as they want to see him play the character in the MCU. But as it turns out, he wasn't originally going to show up in the film.

According to Deadline senior film reporter Justin Kroll, James Bond actor Daniel Craig was originally going to play Reed Richards in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. However, due to the uptick of COVID-19 cases during the time of filming, he backed out as he was living in London and the quick shoot might not be worth the risk of potentially infecting his family.

However, Twitter user @heavyspoilers gave a slightly conflicting report. While he did also confirm that Craig was attached to make an appearance in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness at one point, he did say that he heard that the actor was actually supposed to play Balder the Brave, not Reed Richards as Kroll reported.

Despite the conflicting information regarding the James Bond vet's supposed character in his cameo in the film, it is very interesting nonetheless that he was originally going to show up instead of Krasinski as Reed Richards, a portrayal that has been fan cast for years and finally answered by Marvel albeit in a quick appearance.

It would have been awesome to see Craig show up in the film whether it's as Reed Ricards or Balder the Brave since he is a beloved actor and you can also argue that he would have gotten the same kind of response from the audience who cheered at Krasinski's appearance. On the bright side, his absence was a blessing in disguise since we were able to see what Krasinski as Reed Richards looks like, and let's just wait and see if he will also play him in the main MCU.
