Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is one of the most highly-anticipated anime titles coming to Netflix in the near future. It's a spinoff of CD Projekt Red's popular Cyberpunk 2077 game that will take you deep into the world of edgerunners, a type of mercenary outlaw, as they traverse the dystopian and futuristic Night City.

Netflix confirmed that Cyberpunk: Edgerunners will be set in the same futuristic world as the videogame, the dystopian Night City. The show's official synopsis confirms that the 10-episode standalone series will tell the story of:

"A street kid trying to survive in a technology and body modification-obsessed city of the future. Having everything to lose, he chooses to stay alive by becoming an edgerunner – a mercenary outlaw also known as cyberpunk."

Since this is about a kid, it's likely that there will be less sexual content in the Netflix series compared to the videogame. The story will likely not stray too far from its source material, but expect the series to find different ways CD Projekt Red and Studio Trigger can use the dystopian setting to tell a new compelling story.

Netflix hasn't provided any additional details about the plot of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, but we will update this article once we get the latest scoop.

It looks like the protagonist of Edgerunners was referenced in the Cyberpunk 2077 game two years ago.

As pointed out by @Vesn4_ on Twitter, a drink called The David Martinez is available to purchase from the Afterlife bar in Night City. While taht doesn't sound exciting, fans of the RPG will know that only legendary figures in the world of Cyberpunk get drinks named after them at Afterlife.

The trailer for Edgerunners revealed that Martinez is a street kid from Santo Domingo that turns personal tragedy into an opportunity to get inside the world of edgerunners. The description of the drink also alludes to this storyline, as it talks about making an impact and aiming high.
