Cruel Summer Season 2 presents fans with a brand new riddle to solve in the Freeform TV series.

The teen thriller shifts the timeline and place now that viewers know which Annabelle theory is correct. In Season 2, Olivia Holt and Chiara Aurelia will not return as Kate Wallis and Jeanette Turner. Instead, a fresh cast and showrunner for Cruel Summer Season 2 take over the anthology series.

Cruel Summer Season 2 new cast

The show's format as an anthology series is maintained, and Cruel Summer Season 2 features a fresh cast. Megan Landry is played by Sadie Stanley. The plot revolves around two teen girls and one teen boy, the same as it did in Season 1.

Megan is “a computer coder and honor student from a blue-collar family. Once Megan meets Isabella, she begins to live in the moment and embrace her true self. When events take a tragic turn, her long-held dreams are dashed, and she is left wondering who she can trust.”

The two girls are living in the same house in Cruel Summer Season 2. Isabella is played by Eloise Payet, who joins the cast. As an exchange student, she lives with Megan Landry's family. She, on the other hand, "shakes up life in this small town," and she's keeping a secret about why she came to live with the Landrys.

Griffin Gluck has joined the cast of Cruel Summer Season 2 as Luke Chambers. Megan's best friend, Luke, hails from a rich household.

Cruel Summer Season 2 brings in new mystery and a new showrunner

Although a trailer for Cruel Summer Season 2 has yet to be released, Freeform teased viewers with a new storyline in a recent press release.

“Set in an idyllic waterfront town in the Pacific Northwest, the next chapter of Cruel Summer follows the rise and fall of an intense teenage friendship,” the Freeform press release teased.

The series' storytelling style of bouncing back and forth between three different years around Y2K — the year 2000 — continues.

Tia Napolitano's replacement as showrunner for Cruel Summer Season 2 is Elle Triedman. She is, however, still an executive producer on the show. Other executives include Iron Ocean Productions' Jessica Biel and Michelle Purple, as well as Bill Purple. Season 1 was created by Bert V. Royal, but he quit after the pilot.
