Criminal Minds revival will feature some of the series’ much-loved original characters, albeit without Matthew Gray Gubler and Daniel Henney. Titled Criminal Minds: Evolution, its newly released story details hint at what lies ahead for the fan-favorites JJ (A.J. Cook), Garcia (Kirsten Vangsness), and Luke (Adam Rodriguez).

Paramount+ ordered a ten-episode Criminal Minds revival, which is also dubbed Criminal Minds Season 16. Aside from JJ, Garcia, and Luke, it will also feature the return of Prentiss (Paget Brewster), Rossi (Joe Mantegna), and Tara (Aisha Tyler).

Criminal Minds Revival Story Details

TVLine dropped some specifics about the new arcs for the show’s returning characters.

It will explore the brewing romance between Garcia and Luke. The show’s premiere episode will quickly address the result of their planned dinner date in the Season 15 finale.

“You will learn what came of that dinner date almost instantly in the characters’ first scene together,” the publication noted.

Alternatively, Criminal Minds revival will give a glimpse of JJ’s home life with her husband, Will (Josh Stewart). Of course, fans will also see how intimate they can be.

“What you will find, at least in the early episodes of the Paramount+ revival, is that we spend more time exploring the BAU agents’ interior lives,” the publication added. “Meaning, with regards to JJ, you’ll be privy to more of her and husband Will’s home (and sex) life than ever before.”

Matthew Gray Gubler, Daniel Henney Missing in Action in Criminal Minds Revival

Criminal Minds revival will not feature Dr. Spencer Reid (Gubler) and Special Agent Matt Simmons (Henney), but fans will surely never forget them.

This time, the FBI’s elite team of criminal profilers will go against “their greatest threat yet,” an Unsub (Zach Gilford), who developed a network of serial killers during the pandemic.

Fans will see the OG veteran cast members of the show but not Gubler and Henney.

“It’s a little bit of a mystery what Reid and Simmons are up to,” showrunner Erica Messer told TVLine during the show’s Television Critics Association press tour panel. “But they’re certainly not forgotten.”

Fans will still see Simmons and Reid’s desks and all their stuff on them.

“Like, if any of you went back [to the office after the pandemic], you still have stuff on your desk that was there for two years,” the EP continued. “So, we’re definitely playing that. But [Spencer and Matt] are not gone gone.”

Criminal Minds revival will premiere on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 24.
