Controversial Activision-Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick's Future Remains in Question after $68.7 Billion Microsoft Acquisition Deal


Big news for the whole gaming community as Microsoft is in the talks to acquire Activision-Blizzard for a whopping $68.7 billion in an all-cash deal and this leaves the question on the future of the current CEO of the company that brought Call of Duty, Bobby Kotick, which remains unknown as the negotiations are still kept behind closed doors.

After being under fire for months following various suits on sexual harassment in the workplace and investors going up against the company, Activision-Blizzard may have a small space to breathe after Microsoft Corporation agrees to buy the company in an all-cash deal worth $68.7 billion and this puts the controversial CEO of the former in between, having the question of what happens next for CEO Bobby Kotick.

After the completion of the deal, Phil Spencer will be having control of Activision-Blizzard, so, where would Bobby Kotick fit?

In a report from IGN, the future of Bobby Kotick as the CEO of Activision-Blizzard remains unknown, with his contract ending by 2023 at the earliest and in the report, a spokesperson from Microsoft said, "Bobby will lead Activision Blizzard as CEO, as he has for the last 30 years. Bobby and Phil will work together to ensure the transition to this exciting new combined enterprise. The Activision Blizzard business will report to Phil after the close."

However, in a report from Wall Street Journal, sources who are familiar with the negotiations between two of the biggest companies in gaming says that Bobby Kotick would be leaving the company should the deal be closed.

CEO Bobby Kotick has been hit with various controversies after last years’ lawsuits on Activision-Blizzard following the allegations on the company honing a frat-boy workplace culture where sexual harassment and gender-based discrimination. While one has been sorted out having the company pay millions of dollars, other cases remain in court. Their investors, too, filed a class suit on Activision-Blizzard for not informing them on the investigations as regards the harassment suit.

Details on the full arrangement remain scarce but Bobby Kotick is still silent on the matter.
