Update: Cobra Kai Season 5 is now available to stream on Netflix.

In early May 2022, Netflix announced during their Netflix is a Joke comedy festival that Cobra Kai Season 5 will be released on September 9, 2022. This release date is closer than what many fans expected. New seasons of Cobra Kai are usually released around late December or early January, so it's good to know that Netflix is releasing Cobra Kai Season 5 earlier.

As expected, Cobra Kai Season 5 is included in Netflix's list of movies and TV shows coming in September 2022.

Cobra Kai Season 5 Trailers

On May 6, Netflix released the first teaser trailer for Cobra Kai Season 5, which features the return of Chozen, who is teaming-up with Daniel LaRusso as they try to stop Terry Silver's nefarious plans to expand the Cobra Kai dojo across the valley. Meanwhile, Johnny Lawrence is on a mission to find Miguel in Mexico, and Robby Keene joins his adventure.

In June 2022, Netflix released another trailer for Cobra Kai Season 5, which you can watch below:

Co-executive producer Jon Hurwitz shared a tease: "I've seen the Cobra Kai S5 trailer and I'm obsessed. Perfectly sets the tone, without ruining all the surprises," he said on Twitter. "This one feels like a different (but same) kind of 80s movie. September 9th can't come soon enough!"

Cobra Kai Season 5

As shown at the finale of Cobra Kai Season 4, various characters end in new enticing situations. Daniel LaRusso has teamed-up with Chozen Toguchi, the villain of Karate Kid 2. Despite Cobra Kai winning the All-Valley Tournament, Daniel can't just do nothing while the notorious dojo gets bigger than ever. So he reunites with an old frenemy (who appeared in Season 3) and it looks like they are brewing up a plan.

Cobra Kai's victory will most likely ignite a bunch of conflicts. Season 4 brought Terry Silver back in full villain mode, as he bribed the official to give the win to his dojo. Tory overheard this, and although she's elated that she won, she feels conflicted because it's not the way to win. It's likely that we'll see Tory find a way out of Cobra Kai at some point.

It was also revealed that Silver framed Kreese for the assault (and attempted murder?) of Stingray that one night in the Cobra Kai dojo. It looks like Kreese is in big trouble, and Silver has a bunch of resources to make Cobra Kai much bigger.

Johnny is finally moving towards a reconciliation with Robby, but it looks like he's moving farther away from Miguel, who just had a heartbreaking moment in Season 4. Miguel plans to find his birth father, who Carmen tells Johnny doesn't even know Miguel exists, and is a bad man. Johnny will be going after him, so it looks like Season 5 will develop that story further.

As for Robby, he seemed to care about young Kenny, and it looks like he will have to save him from the dark side corrupting his mind. However, it looks like Kenny will be the star of the Cobra Kai dojo, so it looks like he won't leave the dark side anytime soon.

On June 20, while speaking to TV Line, William Zabka and Ralph Macchio teased that there will be even more Terry Silver in Season 5.

“When you’re the only one who sees something, you come up looking like the crazy person,” Macchio said. “So, there’s a little bit of [Daniel] trying to make everyone understand how diabolical this guy is.”

“It’s a fun character journey,” Zabka added.

Mary Mouser, who plays Samantha in the show, teased her character's romance story details in Season 5.

During an interview with Deadline, Mouser shared story details about Samantha's love life and teased that “people will be happy” with her arc in Season 5.

"In my opinion, Samantha has much bigger fish to fry than boys at the moment. I think she's got a family legacy to figure out at the moment, maybe. We'll see. Samantha's love life is one of my most favorite things because I just get to have so much fun hanging out with my friends on set and I get to call it work. I think people will be happy."

Will Cobra Kai Season 5 be the end of the series?

Cobra Kai Season 5

No. Speaking to ScreenRant, co-creator Josh Heald confirmed that Cobra Kai Season 5 will be just another chapter of the Karate Kid sequel series, and not the end. "We have more beyond season 5," confirmed. "We are not writing to the end of the series in season 5 right now."

According to Nielsen, Netflix subscribers watched more than 2.4 billion minutes of Cobra Kai during the week of December 27 to January 2, which was enough to surpass the previous streaming leader The Witcher, even though the latest season of Cobra Kai was was only available on Netflix for three days of that week.

Considering its success, it's likely that Netflix will officially renew Cobra Kai for Season 6 and maybe beyond.

During a ComicBook interview with Ralph Macchio about Cobra Kai Season 5, the actor discussed how much future story the writers have in their minds, explaining that some material was moved to Season 4 because it didn't simply fit in Season 3. According to him, a similar thing happened while they were filming Season 5, and they shot several scenes that are "being held for the future if we get that green light."

You can read his full quote below:
"There's stuff that they wrote in Season 3 that didn't happen until Season 4 'cause there wasn't any more room in Season 3. There's stuff that was in Season 5 that we know we shot that is being held for the future if we get that green light, so there's more to come, we hope."

Who will be in the cast of Cobra Kai Season 5?

Cobra Kai Season 5

Cobra Kai Season 5 will likely keep much of the cast, so that means William Zabka, Ralph Macchio, Tanner Buchanan, Xolo Maridueña, Thomas Ian Griffith, Courtney Henggeler, Peyton List, and Jacob Bertrand will likely all return, among others. It looks like Yuji Okomoto (Chozen) and Dallas Dupree Young (Kenny) will also have bigger roles in Season 5. Netflix hasn't announced any newcomers for Season 5 yet.

Martin Kove, who plays John Kreese, might not show up in Season 5 because of what happened to his character in the finale of Season 4.

As for recent news about the cast: In March 2022, Cobra Kai stars Jacob Bertrand and Peyton List confirmed that they're dating.

The cast will also be performing in Cobra Kai: Live & Badass event, and there are free tickets up for grabs now:

On May 24, Deadline reported that Alicia Hannah-Kim will be joining Cobra Kai Season 5. She is playing the formidable South Korean sensei Kim Da-Eun who factors into Terry Silver’s plans for accelerating the expansion of Cobra Kai.

Paul Walter Hauser teased the return of Stingray. "I will just say Stingray might be done with the past, but the past is not done with Stingray," Hauser told Comicbook.

Are there any celebrity cameos in Cobra Kai Season 5?

On March 5, Peyton List, who plays Tory in Cobra Kai, teased more celebrity cameos are coming in Season 5.

Speaking to ET's Cassie DiLaura, the 23-year-old actress talked about Carrie Underwood's surprise cameo during Season 4. The Grammy-winning star appeared in The Fall episode and sang The Moment of Truth, which was originally performed by Survivor on the soundtrack to the original 1984 The Karate Kid movie.

"There are definitely some cameos within season five that I feel like are just as random as the ones we've had before," List told ET. "But yeah, anyone who is a fan of Cobra Kai should come forward now because I feel like the creators will find those messages and just be like, 'All right, let's figure this out.' There's more fighters that are coming on too [and] train people in that space, which was really exciting. The boys were freaking out and they were training us."

The creators of the show also addressed the potential appearance of Hilary Swank, the star of The Next Karate Kid.
