Chris Hemsworth Thought 2016's Ghostbusters Was the End of His Career

Sony rebooted the Ghostbusters franchise in 2016, featuring a new female lineup including SNL alumnus Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones as the modern-day ghost-busting characters. Aside from the lead stars, Chris Hemsworth also stars as Kevin Beckman, the superbly attractive witless receptionist. Although it appears that Hemsworth did an awesome job with the comedy role, he recently revealed that he was extremely anxious about it and thought that it would be the end of his career.

In a recent interview with GQ, Chris Hemsworth opens up about the anxiety he went through when director Paul Feig wanted him to do improvisation on the set of Ghostbusters.

"I said to Paul [Feig], "There's not a whole lot on the page, like, what do you want me doing?" He said, "Oh, we'll figure it out when you get here," Hemsworth explained. "So I said, "Okay, why not? Let's go." And I got there, turned up to the studio the day before we started shooting and he handed me the script, I read the script and I said, "There's still nothing in here. Like, what am I doing?" And he said, "It's okay, we're gonna improvise and have fun." And my immediate reaction was, this is not only the end of my career but I'm going to ruin this film, I'm gonna let everyone down, I haven't done this before, what am I doing?"

Despite the backlash that the film faced prior to its theatrical release, it seems that this was never an issue for the actor. Instead, he doubted his improvisation skills because he was surrounded by incredibly talented comedians. Thankfully, it's safe to say that Hemsworth somehow managed to level his improv with his co-stars, thanks to Thor: Ragnarok, which served as a brief preparation for the actor.

More importantly, who would have noticed that Hemsworth was doubtful about his performance as Kevin in 2016's Ghostbusters? His portrayal of the receptionist character was unquestionably hilarious, and his improv skill was outstanding.

Chris Hemsworth's latest outing as the beloved God of Thunder in Thor: Love and Thunder will hit theaters on July 8.
