Chicago Med Season 7 will premiere on NBC this week, and there are a lot of things in store for each other characters.

Ahead of the Season 7 official release, NBC dropped the official synopsis for Chicago Med Season 7, as well as a 30-second trailer centered on all Chicago franchises, namely Chicago Med, Chicago Fire, and Chicago P.D.

Chicago MedSeason 7 plot teased

According to the official synopsis, Dr. Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) will find his medical career in jeopardy after he covered up a serious ethics violation in season 6.

Dr. Sharon Goodwin (S. Epatha Merkerson) will also find herself in a difficult position because she needs to ensure that their patients will get the best of care while also dealing with the intense fiscal scrutiny their hospital is facing.

Dr. Ethan Choi (Brian Tee) will kick off Chicago Med Season 7, Episode 1 with a recovery storyline after he was shot by a former patient in Season 6.

Elsewhere in the series, Dr. Dean Archer (Steven Weber) would have to show the other doctors what he's made of as he becomes the interim chief of the hospital's ER department.

"Maggie Lockwood, the charge nurse, and eyes, ears, and brain of the ER is skilled and confident but finds herself dealing with profound family issues of her own. Ace surgeon Dr. Crockett Marcel, the New Orleans-raised surgeon with a breezy manner, has finally started to let his guard down, earning the respect of his colleagues. And now two new doctors have joined the E.D. family. Dr. Stevie Hammer is a brilliant, scrappy emergency medicine doctor with a surprising past and Dr. Dylan Scott is an ex-cop who's doing a dual residency in emergency medicine and pediatrics," the synopsis revealed.

Two series regulars exit Chicago Med after season 6

After Chicago Med Season 6 wrapped up, it was announced that two original cast members will no longer return to season 7. Yaya DaCosta, who portrayed the role of April Sexton decided to quit the series alongside Torrey DeVitto, who played the role of Natalie Manning.

DaCosta previously revealed that she decided to leave Chicago Med after reading the script for Our King Of People.

"My exit from Chicago Med and the arrival of this show happened really simultaneously. There isn't much to say about it. There was a window opening and a question mark as to whether I should stay or go. And in that window, I fell in love with Our Kind of People and I jumped at the opportunity to work with Lee Daniels again. I first worked with him years ago on The Butler," she told Deadline.

DeVitto released a statement following her exit from Chicago Med. On her Instagram account, the actress who played the role of a pediatrician said that all good things must come to an end.

"It has been such an honor and pure joy to bring Dr. Natalie Manning to life for all of you on Chicago Med for the past 6 seasons. But it is now time for me and her to bow out and say goodbye. Thank you to all you loyal watchers who adored her as much as I did. I can't wait to share what's to come with all of you. New adventures await," she wrote on Instagram.

Two new characters will appear in Chicago Med Season 7

DaCosta and DeVitto's recent exit paved the way for Chicago Med to introduce two new characters in season 7.

Actress Kristen Hager has been cast as Dr. Stevie Hammer, an emergency medical doctor with a surprising past. She is joined by actor Guy Lockard, who will play the role of Dr. Dylan Scott, a former cop who's pursuing a dual residency in the emergency and pediatrics department of the hospital.

When will Chicago Med Season 7 premiere?

The new season of Chicago Men will premiere on NBC on Wednesday, Sept. 22 at 8 p.m. The two other Chicago franchises will also premiere on the same day.

Chicago Fire Season 10, Episode 1 will premiere at 9 p.m. and Chicago P.D. Season 9 will air at 10 p.m.

Will there be a Chicago Med, Chicago Fire, and Chicago P.D. crossover?

Throughout the years, there have already been four crossovers between the three Chicago franchises. The first crossover aired in 2015 followed by crossovers in 2016, 2018, and 2019.

Last year, there was no crossover between the three shows most likely due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

This season, it's unclear if there will be a crossover. But Chicago Fire showrunner Derek Hass previously said that they are brainstorming ideas.

"We've already started talking about ideas for it and to do one in the vein of ‘Infection,' where it was three big episodes with all three shows represented in all three hours. That would be ideal. Hopefully, the pandemic will be closer to being under control by then, and we'll have more people back and we can cross people over a bit more easily," Hass told TV Line.

Hass also confirmed that Chicago Fire will be gearing for two major events in season 10.

Has a Chicago Med Season 7 trailer already been released?
