The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is one of the most celebrated fantasy video games. So, for those moving on to shiny new consoles, can The Witcher 3 be played on PS5?

The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt is the third Witcher game, but it's still the one that truly popularized the series.

Playing as the Witcher Geralt, you travel in a massive open world, accepting quests, earning money you can then choose how to spend, and making choices that affect the world and those around you.

One of the features that make the game stand out from the previous 2 is that Ciri is a key character, while Yennefer also appears. Moreover, the game has been praised for its great writing and fun side quests, not to mention the beautiful graphics that make the game endure seven years after its original release.

Will The Witcher Season 3 - where we also expect the Wild Hunt to have some role - be equally popular after a divisive second season? This remains to be seen.

And, as a new generation Witcher game is in the making, what will its release mean for the availability of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt?

Will The Witcher 3 Be On PS5?

The short answer is yes, The Witcher 3 will be upgraded to become available for PS5. A visual upgrade has been planned since 2021, though this was delayed more than once. This is now expected to happen in the fourth quarter of 2022.

On 2020, the Witcher team announced that they were working on preparing The Witcher for next-generation consoles via an announcement on the official Witcher game website.

According to the announcement: "The next generation edition of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will release as a standalone purchase for PC, Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5, as well as a free update for everyone who already owns the game on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4."

As such, those who are thinking of starting the game in later 2022 will get a shiny new version, but those who already own it won't miss out.
