It has been two years since Mike Flanagan followed up his The Haunting anthology with The Haunting of Bly Manor. As he has his new Netflix show, The Midnight Club, can it be considered The Haunting Season 3?

Flanagan started The Haunting series with The Haunting of Hill House in 2018, followed by The Haunting of Bly Manor in 2020. The two shows are borrowed stories to honor their authors, Shirley Jackson and Henry James. So, can The Midnight Club be their third installment, considering it's also a tribute to Christopher Pike?

The Difference Between The Haunting, The Midnight Club

Flanagan explained that The Haunting is unique on its own as its two seasons are both based on horror literature about ghosts. These stories have also been previously adapted.

This is also why his other upcoming project, The Fall of the House of Usher, is not part of The Haunting umbrella.

"This is the first time that's ever crossed my mind!" he said, via TVLine, at the press event at Netflix's New York City headquarters. "Our thing with The Haunting is that we always wanted it to be primarily based on a piece of classic horror literature, and ideally something that has been adapted before that we can do something different with."

He then revealed the difference between the series and his two new shows.

"When we think of The Haunting, we think about authors like [Edgar Allan] Poe and [Charles] Dickens, contemporaries that are more in the Henry James, Shirley Jackson world. The other criteria with it is that it has to primarily be about ghosts," he explained. "That question came up with The Fall of the House of Usher because that was based on Poe. It's just not a ghost story, and so, there's no haunting there. [The Midnight Club] was always its own thing."

The Future of The Haunting

It was already two years when Flanagan talked about the future of The Haunting and if it would ever have a third season.

In a tweet, he confirmed there were no talks or plans about a new season yet.

"At the moment. there are no plans for more chapters," he wrote. "Never say never, of course, but right now we are focused on a full slate of other @intrepid projects for 2021 and beyond. If things change, we will absolutely let everyone know!"
