Camilla Parker Bowles was one of the most disliked members of the royal family during the early 90s. At the time, she was accused of having an affair with Prince Charles. And Princess Diana’s supporters were also convinced that she was the reason why the Prince and Princess of Wales’ marriage fell apart.
Despite all the criticisms that she received, Camilla Parker Bowles did not publicly comment on the affair. And she has never talked about Princess Diana either.
Camilla Parker Bowles Weighs In On The Challenges She Faced During Her Affair With Prince Charles
But during her interview with Vogue for its July 2022 issue, the Duchess of Cornwall shed light on what it was like to be criticized by the public for a very long time.
“It’s not easy. I was scrutinized for such a long time that you just have to find a way to live with it. Nobody likes to be looked at all the time and, you know, criticized, but I think, in the end, I sort of rise above it and get on with it. You’ve got to get on with life,” Camilla said.

Camilla Parker Bowles Called The Criticisms Horrid And Unpleasant
In 2017, Prince Charles’ wife was quoted as saying that the days when she was reviled by the press were horrid.
“It was horrid. It was a deeply unpleasant time and I wouldn’t want to put my worst enemy through it. I couldn’t have survived it without my family,’” she said (via Daily Mail).
Much of what is known about Prince Charles and Camilla’s affair came from royal experts and from books. But the two never addressed the controversy together. In fact, Princess Diana also had to suffer the consequences of her actions when she told Martin Bashir all the details about her failed marriage to Prince Charles.
Following the 1995 interview, Queen Elizabeth ordered Prince Charles and Princess Diana to finalize their divorce. And this paved the way for Prince Charles and Camilla to be together officially.

Ten years later, the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall tied the knot in a civil ceremony, and the queen skipped the gathering. Her decision to skip the wedding was seen as a snub by some royal fans. However, it was later revealed that the monarch didn’t attend the ceremony because her duties outweighed her familial obligations. But this didn’t mean that the queen didn’t support Prince Charles’ decision to remarry.
In fact, the monarch and Prince Philip hosted a reception for Prince Charles and Camilla hours after their wedding at Windsor Castle.
And just recently, the queen once again proved how much she has grown to love and appreciate Camilla. In her statement earlier this year, she said that she hopes Prince Charles’ wife will be styled as queen consort when the time comes.
“I remain eternally grateful for and humbled by, the loyalty and affection that you continue to give me. And when, in the fullness of time, my son Charles becomes King, I know you will give him and his wife Camilla the same support that you have given me; and it is my sincere wish that, when that time comes, Camilla will be known as queen consort as she continues her own loyal service,” the queen said (via Hello! magazine).
