Bustin' Makes Us Feel Good in Ghostbusters Afterlife Final Trailer

With little over a week to go, 'Ghostbusters: Afterlife' just couldn't keep its Ecto-Containment Unit closed - the final trailer has emerged, and there's definitely something strange in the new neighborhood!

The fourth official trailer (there have also been two official teasers) comes as a bit of a surprise, especially with the film releasing in theaters on November 19, and with the last trailer having only released a couple of weeks ago. Nevertheless, the film is almost upon us, and while the new trailer doesn't reveal all that much, it does promise the long-awaited return of some fan favorites.

Check it out below:

Like all the other trailers we've seen so far, we do get some similar scenes - we see the Ecto-1 in the old barn, a Terror Dog chasing Paul Rudd's Mr Grooberson through a Walmart, the MiniPufts, supernatural earthquakes and so on. But we also get to see a bit more, as well as some major call-backs to that original 1984 movie, which comes in the form of a voiceover from Ray Stantz (which is actually dialogue from the first film), and also a shot of the OG Ghostbusters themselves.

Ray's voiceover is lifted straight from the 1984 film. He says: "I remember Revelations. And I looked as he opened the sixth seal. There was a great earthquake. Judgement Day." And he certainly isn't wrong, as there's definitely "something strange" going on in Summerville, Oklahoma. It's Terror Dogs, StayPufts, fire hydrant-eating ghosts and one-eyed spooks galore, as Egon's granddaughter Phoebe puts a call in to Ray's Occult Books in New York to summon some much-needed help.

We also get a few other nostalgic fume-laced shots too, such as the Temple of Gozer, where two Terror Dogs - no doubt Callie (Carrie Coon) and Mr. Grooberson (Paul Rudd) in dog-form - are seemingly waiting on the arrival of Gozer. And as for those little MiniPufts, we see them in the back of the Ecto-1, so it's clear the movie is going to merchandise the hell out of these guys. It also looks like they might end up being part of the new team in some shape or form (it looks like Slimer really is out of a job).

Before the trailer cuts to black, we hear Ray say, "Hey. You miss us?" We see partial shots of the three remaining original Ghostbusters, while Ray Park Jr.'s undeniably iconic movie theme song plays.

Either Sony Pictures are worried that the new 'Ghostbusters' installment is going to bomb when it hits theaters, or they're so confident in this new movie that they're happy to give it all the marketing they think it needs. Either way, six trailers does seem a little much, especially with the latest being so close to the release date - even if all of them have pretty much revolved around the same scenes or sequences, or thereabouts (for which we are grateful, because we hate spoilers).

With that said, though, the cinema landscape has gone through some turbulent times due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. So who can really blame a movie studio for not wanting to short-change themselves when it comes to a new release. Director Jason Reitman also seems pretty confident in his new project, and we expect father Ivan Reitman - director of the original two 'Ghostbusters' movies - couldn't be prouder.
