Borderlands Movie Officially Announces Cate Blanchett Casting as Lilith

It's official: Cate Blanchett is joining the Borderlands movie that's being directed by Hostel creator Eli Roth.

It has previously been reported that Blanchett was in talks to appear in the live-action adaptation of the popular video game and that she could be in negotiations to portray Lilith. Now Variety confirms that the Lord of the Rings star has signed on and will play the legendary thief who also knows a little bit of magic. Quite a fitting role for someone who has previously portrayed the Marvel equivalent of the Goddess of Death.

Not surprisingly, Roth is pleased to have Blanchett on board for the movie.

"I'm so lucky to have the amazing Cate Blanchett starring in Borderlands. We had the most incredible collaboration together on The House With a Clock in Its Walls, and I believe there's nothing she can't do," Roth said. He continued by pointing out that Blanchett is perfectly capable of taking on any role imaginable.

"From drama to comedy and now action, Cate makes every scene sing. Working with her is truly a director's dream come true, and I feel so fortunate that I get to do it again on an even bigger scale. Everyone brings their A-game to work with Cate, and I know together we're going to create another iconic character in her already storied career," Roth concluded.

For now, Blanchett is the only major star attached to the Borderlands movie. However, we're already looking forward to more casting news in the near future.

The Borderlands film has not yet been given an official release date. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
