Xolo Maridueña recently spoke to Empire Magazine and he confirmed that he and director Angel Manuel Soto are already looking forward to working on the second movie.

"If we get one movie or a trilogy and f-cking fold this into the Justice League sh-t, we're ready for the whole nine," Maridueña said.

"For me and Angel and the team, we kicked ass with this movie. It just depends on numbers," he added.

It's certainly a promising tease considering that Blue Beetle has already created a buzz with its trailer alone. Needless to say, Mariduena confirms that he and Soto had a specific mission when they worked on the upcoming DC film.

“The goal was to create a movie for a young me and a young Angel that said, ‘Hey, man, someone who looks like you or comes from a similar background can be a superhero,’” he said.

“The second thing was to open more doors for people like us. As fun as it is to get into this superhero world where everything is [dialled up to] 110 per cent, [it’s] the characters… that I’ve [most] related to,” Maridueña continued.

Jaime Reyes is only one of many comic book characters who takes the Blue Beetle mantle but he is also DC's first Latino hero. In addition to that, Xolo Maridueña will be the first Latin lead in a DC Studios movie.

Needless to say, Blue Beetle is making history and there is a huge chance we'll get a sequel announcement soon. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.

Blue Beetle is currently scheduled to hit theaters on August 18, 2023.
