BLACKPINK is the talk of the town today after dropping their new album, Born Pink. As they once again dominate the music charts, making and breaking records, the girls also face controversy over the lyrics of their B-side song “Typa Girl.”

BLACKPINK has had their fair share of questionable lyrics, from “As If It’s Your Last” to “Ice Cream.” As Jisoo, Lisa, Jennie, and Rose don’t often write their songs, the producers and songwriters have the blame. But what can fans say about “Typa Girl?”

The Questionable ‘Typa Girl’ Lyrics

According to Koreaboo, some find “Typa Girl” lyrics problematic for referring to a “pick me” girl. The term has often been part of K-pop songs today.

It is used as a derogatory word to describe a woman who claims or acts as if she is better than others to get the men’s attention.

With that said, they see the song fitting the “pick me girl aesthetic.”

The lyrics read,

“I bring money to the table/Not your dinner/Both my body and my bank account/Good figure/Thinking about me, but there’s nothing to consider/If I let you in my circle, you a winner. I’m not like these other girls at all/I’m the typa girl that make you forget that you got a type/Type that make you love me when the only thing you done is like.”

Fans React to ‘Typa Girl’ Lyrics

Fans can’t help but react to “Typa Girl” lyrics in a discussion titled Typa Girl by Blackpink has a couple lyrics that kinda rub me wrong? on Reddit.

Some find it “problematic” and blame the songwriter Bekuh Boom, who they said is also behind the other questionable lyrics by YG Entertainment artists.

One fan said Boom might have been “outdated.” Despite working for the agency for a long time, her lyrics and works have been “getting too common these days.”

The fan continued that she even messed up with Lisa’s raps. Though her first batch of works was good, it’s now “repetitive and kind of crap” only 14-year-old listeners would want.

Another said that learning Boom is a white conservative was jarring but unsurprising, seeing the lyrics in Lisa’s raps, like “you go finna catch me.”

Aside from “Typa Girl,” fans also question the other BLACKPINK songs for bragging about their money and being rich girls—though they don’t blame Jisoo, Lisa, Jennie, and Rose for it.
