Black Adam Star Dwayne Johnson Salutes Brendan Fraser's Return in New Film The Whale

The fan-beloved star of The Mummy, Brendan Fraser is finally back in Hollywood, and we are all excited to see his return. He might have been non-existent in the limelight for more than a decade, but his return in Darren Aronofsky's psychological drama, The Whale, solidifies that he is ready to take on prominent roles just like before.

Following The Whale's premiere at Venice Film Festival, attendees of the event claim that Fraser's performance might land him an Oscar nomination. In fact, his performance was applauded for a six-minute standing ovation at the premiere, which put the actor in tears.

Of course, fans are delighted to see Brendan Fraser finally back in Hollywood and earn the recognition he deserves. One of those fans is no other than the Black Adam actor Dwayne 'The Rock' Johson, who's Fraser co-star in The Mummy Returns, which apparently kickstarted The Rock's Hollywood career.

The Rock retweeted a tweet featuring Brendan Fraser's tearful reaction to the crowds' six-minute standing applause, with a heartfelt caption saluting the actor. See The Rock's tweet below:

Why Did Brendan Fraser Disappear from Hollywood?

There were several disheartening reports about Fraser's reasons for staying behind in Hollywood. But the most upsetting was back in 2018 when Fraser claimed that he was "blacklisted" in Hollywood after he was sexually harassed by a former president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. He told GQ:

"His left-hand reaches around grabs my ass cheek, and one of his fingers touches me in the taint. And he starts moving it around. I felt ill. I felt like a little kid. I felt like there was a ball in my throat. I thought I was going to cry."

In the same interview, he also revealed how The Mummy's rigorous stunts took a toll on his body and how he was in and out of hospitals due to injuries from his spine, partial knee replacement, and treatment for injured vocal cords.

“By the time I did the third Mummy picture in China, I was put together with tape and ice — just, like, really nerdy and fetishy about ice packs. Screw-cap ice packs and downhill-mountain-biking pads, ’cause they’re small and light and they can fit under your clothes. I was building an exoskeleton for myself daily.”

Although Brendan Fraser did not entirely quit Hollywood and just focused on small TV roles, it's good to know that he is stepping into the limelight once again with massive theatrical roles, starring in Darren Aronofsky's The Whale, where he plays a severely obese teacher, trying to reconnect to his daughter. See The Whale's official synopsis below:

A reclusive English teacher suffering from severe obesity attempts to reconnect with his estranged teenage daughter for one last chance at redemption.

Brendan Fraser's The Whale is scheduled to be theatrically released on December 9. Meanwhile, The Rock's debut as Black Adam will premiere in theaters on October 21.
