Billy Dee Williams is famously known for his role as Lando Calrissian in the Star Wars movie series, but the actor has proven his great talent when it comes to acting both on TV and in movies.

In fact, he started as a stage actor at a very young age before he joined extremely popular movies, like The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, and Batman. With his decades-long career, how wealthy is Billy Dee Williams today?

The Start of Billy Dee Williams’ Stage and Film Career

The now-85-year-old star studied at the Harlem Actors Workshop under the wings of another great actor, the late Sidney Poitier.

He started his career at the very young age of seven in a production of The Firebrand of Florence in 1945. He then made his big break on Broadway in the play A Taste of Honey and continued to dominate the theatre with works in I Have a Dream and Fences.

Come 1959, he made his film debut in The Last Angry Man, while his breakout role came when he played Chicago Bear Gale Sayers in the TV movie Brian’s Song in 1971.

This success didn’t only earn him an Emmy for Best Actor but also a seven-year contract with Motown’s Berry Gordy. He then worked with Diana Ross in the Billie Holiday biopic Lady Sings the Blues and after three years, he had become one of the most well-known Black actors in the U.S.

His most famous role, Lando Calrissian, came in The Empire Strikes Back. He reprised his role in the 1983 Return of the Jedi and 2019 The Rise of Skywalker.

Billy Dee Williams played the other biggest role in his life as the Gotham City district attorney Harvey Dent, who eventually became the supercriminal Two-Face, in the 1989 Batman.

The legendary actor also made a name on the small screen. He had a recurring guest-starring role on Gideon’s Crossing.

He was also part of Dynasty in the 1984-1985 season and paired with Marla Gibbs in The Jeffersons, 227, and The Hughleys.

He then did The Jacksons: An American Dream in 1992 and made a guest appearance on The Cosby Show, A Different World in 1993.

He also made a cameo role in Modern Family and competed in Dancing with the Stars Season 18.

Aside from TV, movie, and Broadway, Billy Dee Williams also found success in doing TV commercials.

His most famous advertisement is for Colt 45 malt liquor. He is also often a guest at fan conventions.
