Bill Skarsgård is the reason why “Stockholm Syndrom” was coined, at least in the new Netflix series Clark.

The streamer has released the trailer for Clark, the new series about Clark Olofsson, which stars Skarsgård and is helmed by Jonas Åkerlund.

The trailer has pure rock 'n' roll flair, and Skarsgård makes it clear why his captors sympathized with Oloffson.

What is Clark All About?

The series will focus on Olofsson's life over the course of six episodes. It is planned to chronicle his early years through to the present day, beginning with the start of his criminal career in the 1960s.

Clark will explore the vast list of crimes committed by this infamous criminal, which includes attempted murder, narcotics trafficking, assault, and robbery. Åkerlund lauded Skarsgrd's performance, calling him "the perfect patch" for the show.

The Swedish actor is best remembered for his frightening performance as Pennywise the Dancing Clown in the 2017 remakes of IT and IT: Chapter Two.

The series features a star-studded ensemble, and Skarsgård is just one of them. Alicia Agneson of Vikings fame, and Vilhelm Blomgren, known for his work in Midsommar, co-star alongside him. Clark has been in post-production since June 2021, and it is slated to air on Netflix later this year.

The teaser claims that the film is based on "crimes, sex, truth, and lies," implying that it will likely break from historical fact. Åkerlund rose to prominence as a director of music videos for artists ranging from The Prodigy to Madonna, and the trailer has a distinct music video feel to it. Starting with the Brittany Murphy-led drug-dealing drama Spun in 2002, the director's films have been crime-driven.

Clark Olofsson in Real Life

The real-life Olofsson was a counter-culture icon in Sweden during the 1970s, a rebellious outlaw who grabbed the Swedish people's imagination. His criminal record was impressive: not only did he rob banks, but he also escaped from prison. He would mock the authorities in interviews, utilizing his years of reading while imprisoned to really rip into them. One reporter described him as "a scruffy Scandinavian mixture between Jesse James and Warren Beatty."

Despite the fact that the series is billed as a crime drama, these high-energy clips imply that it will be laced with humor. Check out the full teaser trailer for Clark below:
