The BL (Boys' Love) anime genre has expanded over the years by producing one show after another in every anime season. It's no surprise that streaming services like Funimation feature BL anime shows nowadays. So, here are the 10 best BL anime on Funimation, ranging from Gravitation to Yuri on Ice!

Crunchyroll and Funimation are presently merged. However, there has been no official word yet that Funimation will be closed down.

Viewers will still have the opportunity to watch the following BL anime on this list before they are permanently transferred to Crunchyroll.

  1. The Betrayal Knows My Name

Kicking off the list is The Betrayal Knows My Name, also known as Uragiri wa Boku no Namae wo Shitteiru in Japanese.

It combines the Boys' Love and fantasy anime genres, with many superpowers, demons, and magical elements in its premise.

The anime follows Yuki Sakurai, an orphaned high schooler with the ability to read the deepest, darkest thoughts of anyone he touches. However, Yuki is plagued by strange dreams and even death threats!

Yuki tries to help a fellow student who is in danger one foggy night—until a truck nearly hits him!

Yuki is saved from certain death thanks to the quick actions of Zess, a mysterious yet beautiful man.

Before disappearing into the night, Zess warns Yuki not to go outside on Walpurgis Night, as the eve of the blood-red moon encourages death, particularly for Yuki.

  2. Gravitation

A story about love and dreams, Gravitation is a BL and comedy anime with a music theme, so expect a lot of music in this anime.

It follows Shuichi Shindou and his band, Bad Luck, as they strive to be Japan's next musical sensation.

Shuichi meets a famous novelist named Eiri Yuki by chance and a gust of wind. He tells Shuichi that his songwriting skills are grade school level.

That's when Shuichi decides to look for Yuki again, unaware that he has experienced love at first sight despite the latter's rudeness.

As it turns out, Yuki is a cynical and heartless writer, which is why Shuichi must go above and beyond to earn his approval, and possibly his love.

  3. Dakaichi: I'm Being Harassed by the Sexiest Man of the Year

Another must-see show on Funimation is Dakaichi: I'm Being Harassed by the Sexiest Man of the Year, a BL anime with a story that can mirror the real world and its challenges for same-sex couples.

It revolves around Takato Saijo and Junta Azumaya's strange love story.

Both of them work in the idol industry, and tensions rise when Junta Azumaya's smile attracts Takato Saijo's admirers.

Takato has been named the industry's Most Huggable for the past five years, and it appears that Azumaya is out to dethrone him, despite the fact that he is still a rookie actor!

When Takato becomes overwhelmed by the whole situation, he turns to alcohol, and his actions attract the attention of Azumaya.

  4. Junjou Romantica

This BL anime delves into three intertwined relationships that happen in different timelines.

The first story is about a relationship between Misaki Takahashi, an incoming college student, and his private tutor, Akihiko Usami.

With college entrance exams looming, Misaki must concentrate on his studies, despite Usami's flirtatious attempts to distract him.

The second story follows Nowaki Kusama and Hiroki Kamijou's relationship.

After Nowaki insisted on Hiroki tutoring him for his upcoming high school proficiency exams, the two hit it off.

The final story features the relationship between literary professor Yoh Miyagi and high schooler Shinobu Takatsuki.

After Shinobu’s older sister divorces Miyagi, he flew all the way to Japan to confess and win his ex-brother-in-law’s heart.

  5. The World’s Greatest First Love

The World's Greatest First Love, or Sekai Ichi Hatsukoi, is a Junjou Romantica spin-off that follows three different couples, the main couple being Ritsu Onodera and Takano Masamune.

Ritsu Onodera leaves his job as a literature editor at his father's publishing company to work in Takano Masamune's Shoujo Manga Department at Marukawa Publishing Company.

Takano was also Ritsu Onodera's old high school lover, who had previously broken his heart.

The anime also depicts the relationship between Hatori and Chiaki.

While Hatori has loved Chiaki since they were children, the latter is a complete airhead who ignores Hatori's romantic advances.

The anime's final couple is Kisa and Yukina. Kisa had never been in love before meeting the prince-like Yukina.

Despite his sexual experiences, Kisa realizes that he may never be good enough to win Yukina's heart.

  6. Yuri on Ice

Next on the list is Yuri on Ice, an anime that isn't exactly BL but has a lot of boy-on-boy tension, which is why it's on the list.

Yuri on Ice is a sports and drama anime about Katsuki Yuuri's journey to Grand Prix victory with the assistance of five-time world champion Viktor Nikiforov.

Following Katsuki Yuuri's crushing defeat in the Figure Skating Grand Prix, Viktor Nikiforov appears to assist him and train him to become the next world champion alongside his teammate and rival, Yuuri Plisetsky.

  7. Sasaki and Miyano

Sasaki and Miyano is a cute and adorable anime that is ideal for anyone who enjoys the romance genre. Most notably, it is a healthy and unproblematic BL anime.

Besides that, it's a slow burn, but the animation in Sasaki and Miyano makes the anime worthwhile.

As the title suggests, Sasaki and Miyano follows the budding relationship between the fudanshi (fan of anything BL) Miyano and his senior, Sasaki.

Unlike Miyano, Sasaki is clueless about BL, but this did not stop Miyano from introducing the genre to Sasaki.

While Miyano admits to having no attraction to men, Sasaki realizes he has feelings for his new friend.

  8. Sarazanmai

Sarazanmai is an LGBTQ+ anime set in Asakusa that combines supernatural, psychological, contemporary fantasy, and drama elements.

To spice things up, it also includes Japanese mythology, urban fantasy, and even youkai!

After inadvertently destroying a Kappa statue, Kazuki, Enta, and Toi are transformed into Kappas and recruited as foot soldiers in an ancient war against the evil Otter Empire!

By going deep into the bowels of the population, eliminating desire blockages, and even revealing the secret, untamed truths behind what people want, the three Kappa footsoldiers attempt to combat the otter-run Kappazon Inc., which controls society with its ability to manipulate people's desires.

  9. The Stranger by the Shore

The Stranger by the Shore is a stunningly beautiful BL anime film that explores internal homophobia as well as the process of accepting oneself.

It's a queer anime film with a mature theme that includes cohabitation.

The Stranger by the Shore follows the love story of Shun Hashimoto, an aspiring novelist, and Mio Chibana, a grieving young man.

Set on an island off the coast of Okinawa, the two main characters met by chance and have grown closer since—until Mio decides to leave the island.

Mio returns to the island after three years in the hopes of finally confessing his feelings for Shun.

  10. Heaven Official's Blessing

Heaven Official's Blessing, the only donghua on this list, is a BL anime that features gods, demons, and ghosts, among other things.

It also incorporates elements of the action, comedy, drama, historical, and supernatural anime genres.

Xie Lian, the Crown Prince of the Xian Le Kingdom, ascended to the heavens at a young age 800 years ago.

Citizens adored him, and he was regarded as the world's darling.

Unfortunately, after three ascensions to the heavens, Xie Lian has become the laughingstock of the three realms 800 years later.

Still, Xie Lian's third attempt did not go well after his ascension destroyed a heavenly palace.

Xie Lian atones for his transgression in the mortal realm by exorcising ghosts.

Later, he meets a mysterious man in red who has been watching him for quite some time.
