Ben Schwartz Teases Sonic the Hedgehog’s Redesign in New Post

It was no mystery that a majority of the audience was displeased with the Sonic the Hedgehog trailer, and reception was so bad that it forced Paramount to delay the film to 2020. Just in, Ben Schwartz, who voices Sonic in the movie, posted up an image that teased a more accurate-looking Sonic for the movie.

Check it out:

I guess the only clue we really have is the gloved hands, but some think that the new design would embrace the more cartoon-y look for the character—just like they did with the Pokemon in Detective Pikachu.

Only very rarely does fan reception end up delaying a film for a quick change. A lot of people ended up hating the first trailer for 2014's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, but the film stuck to its guns and everyone was fine with the new Turtles when the movie came out. To be honest, I was actually fine with Sonic's design by the second viewing of the trailer, but I'm all up for a new look that would be more faithful to the original incarnation.

Besides, the direction they were going, it looked like they made Sonic look like a small man wearing a furry costume. I guess embracing the more animated look could be the way to go.

Catch Sonic the Hedgehog when it comes out Valentine's Day 2020.
