Batwoman Actor Dougray Scott Was Almost Aragorn in Lord of the Rings

Amazon's Lord of the Rings has been a constant topic for conversation, even though we haven't seen a lot of the series yet. While it will focus on a different timeline, fans of the original trilogy are still pretty defensive since it was such a perfect series of movies. It's fair to say that Peter Jackson had a pitch-perfect cast for his Lord of the Rings trilogy but can you imagine just how weird things would be if Viggo Mortensen wasn't Aragorn?

Well, Batwoman actor Dougray Scott recently told NME that he was actually offered the Aragorn role after Steward Townsen and before Viggo Mortensen. Apparently, he got the offer sometime after filming Mission: Impossible 2 and declined the deal since Scott didn't fancy the idea of moving to New Zealand for two years. This supposedly wasn't a direct offer but they did send him the script and wanted the actor to meet with Jackson.

"They sent [the script] to me. They wanted me to go meet Peter Jackson in New Zealand, but to be honest with you I'd just finished doing MI:2 and the idea of spending two years away in New Zealand I just couldn't quite contemplate. The idea of spending that amount of time away in New Zealand at that particular time, I didn't want to do."

Scott doesn't regret turning down the role and is even a fan of the movies because, let's face it, who doesn't like Lord of the Rings at this point? We honestly can't imagine the trilogy without Mortensen but seeing Scott in the role is a nice thing to think about if anything else.

No release date for Amazon's Lord of the Rings has been announced.
