Batgirl Directors Break Silence on the Film's Cancellation: "We Still Can't Believe It"

Warner Bros.' shocking announcement yesterday of canceling the release of Batgirl in either theaters or HBO Max was met with disappointing reactions amongst fans. Not only they are saddened that they won't be able to see the film, but they are also sympathizing with the people involved in the making as they worked hard on bringing the beloved hero to the screen.

A day after the cancellation, Batgirl directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah posted on their Instagram accounts their reactions to the decision in which they expressed their shock and sadness at the studio's cancellation of their project and hoped that they will still be able to show it to the fans someday.

"We are saddened and shocked by the news," the pair wrote. "We still can't believe it. As directors, it is critical that our work be shown to audiences, and while the film was far from finished, we wish that fans all over the world would have had the opportunity to see and embrace the final film themselves. Maybe one day they will insha'Allah."

The directing pair went on to praise the cast and crew who were involved in their film, especially Leslie Grace, who was starring as the titular hero.

"Our amazing cast and crew did a tremendous job and worked so hard to bring Batgirl to life," they continued. "We are forever grateful to have been part of that team. It was a dream to work with such fantastic actors like Michael Keaton, J.K. Simmons, Brendan Fraser, Jacob Scipio, Corey Johnson, Rebecca Front and especially the great Leslie Grace, who portrayed Batgirl with so much passion, dedication and humanity."

The pair concluded, "In any case, as huge fans of Batman since we were little kids, it was a privilege and an honor to have been a part of the DCEU, even if it was for a brief moment. Batgirl For Life."

Based on their statement, it sounds like the pair was really disappointed by the news as they worked on the film for a long time and it will never get a chance to be seen by the public. According to Deadline, they even found out about the news while they were in Morocco for El Arbi's wedding

While the situation is very unfortunate, we can safely say that they'll still get more opportunities. As proven by their works in Bad Boys For Life and Ms. Marvel, they are talented filmmakers and will have a brighter future in the industry despite this obstacle.
