Avatar: The Way of Water Trailer Reaches 148 Million Views in First 24 Hours of Release

After more than a decade, everyone is finally going back to Pandora where the sequel of one of the most-awaited films of all time arrives in theaters soon. Avatar: The Way of Water just dropped its official trailer and within the first 24 hours of its release, the views already reached more than 148 million, even defeating the views of recent Star Wars and Marvel projects.

Given the time difference between the first movie and the sequel, it seems as if there are still a lot of fans who remain interested in the Avatar franchise of James Cameron considering that there is a 13-year gap. In the first 24 hours of the trailer of Avatar: The Way of Water, it received more than 148 million views as per The Hollywood Reporter.

It surpassed the first 24 hours views of The Rise of Skywalker, Black Widow, and Incredibles 2 but it fell short defeating F9, Thor: Love and Thunder, and Spider-Man: No Way Home.

It would be no easy feat for Avatar 2 as the first Avatar movie did consider that before, it has so much impact to the audience given the technology used in the film being new then but now, the film would have to compete with franchises having a huge fanbase like that of Star Wars, Marvel, and DC. To have such competitors would make it difficult to get back on the limelight and build a fan base of its own.

James Cameron, himself, feared that the sequel may flop due to the time the film had to take before its release and given that there is a huge difference in the years from the first Avatar film to put together Avatar 2, the market has changed drastically with the 13-year interval: the youngsters who enjoyed Avatar might even have kids already.

Avatar: The Way of Water is scheduled for release on December 16, 2022.
