It has already been confirmed that Stephen Lang will be back as Miles Quaritch in Avatar: The Way of Water despite being killed in the first movie. But how did Quaritch survive the attacks of the Na'vi? A new still from the highly anticipated sequel reveals that the villain got his own avatar and will be using his new body in the fight for Pandora!
In Avatar, Quaritch was the main villain who led the attack on the Na'vi. He is ultimately killed by Neytiri but it has since been confirmed that Stephen Lang will return in the sequel and it looks like he has a completely new body in Avatar: The Way of Water.
The new image of Quaritch was shared by Empire and Stephen Lang says his character is back with a vengeance. “He’s bigger, he’s bluer, he’s pissed off,” he said with a laugh. “But there may possibly be an aspect of humility. When you take two Na’vi arrows in the chest, that’s gonna have some kind of effect on you.”
But how is Quaritch being brought back in Avatar: The Way of Water? The outlet reveals that the RDA has returned to Pandora with a whole set of Recombinants, or Recoms, which are avatars embedded with the memories of human soldiers.
A whole new body means a whole new Quaritch and Lang points out that this new Quaritch can now go toe-to-toe with the natives of Pandora.
“[He] was always a character who moved in straight lines and at right angles,” Lang said of Quaritch. “But now he is as lithe as they come. He can move with the same kind of cunning and feral quality that any of the Na’vi can.”
It's an exciting tease and it looks like Quaritch is back in the worst way ever, at least for Jake and his tribe.
Avatar: The Way of Water will premiere on December 16, 2022.
