Atlantis: The Lost Empire Co-Director Shares Awesome Details about Unfinished Sequel

It's no secret that Atlantis: The Lost Empire is one of the most underrated Disney flicks of all time. However, it looks like the animated film wasn't supposed to simply end with Milo and Kida trying to rebuild the empire. Kirk Wise has just revealed that a sequel was in development and he was shared some amazing details about the second movie.

Wise, who co-directed The Lost Empire with Gary Trousdale, recently spoke to Collider where he revealed that he, Trousdale and story supervisor John Sanford were planning on a sequel titled Atlantis: Milo's Return that would be unrelated to the Atlantis TV series. He then shared interesting details about the plot they were working on.

"We were going to have a new villain in the story. The villain was going to be wearing big, scary, wool, bulky, World War I-style clothing with a frightening gasmask to obscure its face; a little Darth Vader-esque. And this villain was going to try and retake Atlantis and finish the job that Rourke was unable to accomplish. And the big twist in the climax of the movie is that the villain is unmasked and it turns out to be Helga Sinclair. Plot twist!" Wise explained.

That's right, Helga was supposed to survive and the way she is brought back is just, in a word, wild.

"So Helga survived her fall, became an early-20th-century cyborg and started her own team of mercenaries," Wise added.

Now I don't know about you but that's a sequel that really should be made. Sadly, Disney doesn't seem to have any plans of pursuing the project so we're left with the idea of what could have been.
