Artemis Fowl: Sci-Fi and Fantasy Clash in Fun New Trailer

After Thor and Murder on the Orient Express, Kenneth Branagh is teaming up with Disney to bring us the long-awaited adaptation of Artemis Fowl. The movie is set to come out this May, and we have a new trailer to help us get hyped up for this fantasy/sci-fi romp.

Here's the official description:

Disney's "Artemis Fowl," based on the beloved book by Eoin Colfer, is a fantastical, spellbinding adventure that follows the journey of 12-year-old genius Artemis Fowl, a descendant of a long line of criminal masterminds, as he seeks to find his father who has mysteriously disappeared. With the help of his loyal protector Butler, Artemis sets out to find him, and in doing so uncovers an ancient, underground civilization—the amazingly advanced world of fairies. Deducing that his father's disappearance is somehow connected to the secretive, reclusive fairy world, cunning Artemis concocts a dangerous plan—so dangerous that he ultimately finds himself in a perilous war of wits with the all-powerful fairies.

As you can see, the film has managed to get some impressive names added to the cast. Besides Josh Gad, we also have the likes of Colin Farrell and even Dame Judi Dench. They even got Nonso Anozie to play Butler for the film—probably because he worked with Branagh for his remake of Cinderella.

This movie has taken a long time to get to screens, and it's probably because Disney has been waiting for the Harry Potter hype to die down. I mean, if you ask me, there are a lot of similar elements with a pubescent boy being the lead, and him stumbling into a hidden fantasy world.

Let's just hope director Gilderoy Lockhart here manages to make this long wait worth it.

Catch Artemis Fowl when it hits theaters May 29, 2020.
