Apple Reportedly Could Acquire Disney Thanks to COVID-19

There's no doubt that the COVID-19 pandemic has had a major impact on the entertainment industry. Not only has the outbreak of the novel coronavirus resulted in the cancellation of major events like SXSW and Emerald City Comic Con, but it's also cancelled productions and delayed the release of major films like Mulan and Black Widow.

Now, with the Walt Disney Company's stock down thanks to COVID-19, a new research report suggests that Apple may consider acquiring the Mickey Mouse House. According to The Hollywood Reporter, a Friday research report by Rosenblatt Securities analyst Bernie McTern claims that the tech giant might consider purchasing Disney during this coronavirus-infested market.

"We believe those with long-time horizons, like mega-cap companies with large cash balances and whose equity outperformed Disney over the last three weeks, like Apple, could take advantage of the volatility," the analyst told the entertainment news outlet.

Over the last three weeks, the House of Mouse has lost more or less $85 billion. That's about one third of its market cap. If Apple ever gets the chance to buy Disney, then now would be the time. The tech giant has the capacity and the means to swoop in and acquire the House of Mouse now that Disney's stock has gone down this week.

Of course, Apple has yet to confirm these reports of an acquisition. Let's wait and see whether it really does happen.
