Anthony Mackie Cast in Lead Role for Twisted Metal TV Series

Anthony Mackie has found another major role in a potentially huge franchise. The Falcon and The Winter Soldier star has reportedly been cast as the lead star in the upcoming TV series adaptation of the Twisted Metal video games.

Deadline reports that Mackie has signed on to play John Doe in the new project that will be produced by Sony Pictures Television and PlayStation Productions. In addition to that, the Altered Carbon star will serve as one of the executive producers of the show.

The studios are clearly thrilled about having Mackie on board the project. "We're thrilled to have Anthony Mackie on board. His ability to blend comedy, action and drama is perfect for the Twisted world we're creating," Head of PlayStation Productions Asad Qizilbash said.

The screenplay of Twisted Metal is being written by Deadpool's Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. The new series will follow "a motor-mouthed outsider offered a chance at a better life, but only if he can successfully deliver a mysterious package across a post-apocalyptic wasteland."

The lead character teams up with "a trigger-happy car thief" as they "face savage marauders driving vehicles of destruction and other dangers of the open road, including a deranged clown who drives an all too familiar ice cream truck."

Twisted Metal is one of Sony Computer Entertainment's most successful video game series that includes four main games, two reboots, and an Extra Twisted Edition.

For now, it is unclear when Twisted Metal will begin production. In the meantime, Mackie is set to reprise his role as Sam Wilson in the still-untitled Captain America 4.
