Anita Pointer, one of four sisters who achieved mainstream success and critical acclaim as The Pointer Sisters, passed away on Saturday at age 74.

Anita Pointer Real Cause Of Death

The Grammy winner passed suddenly while she was with her family, as reported by her publicist. The reason for death was not discovered immediately.

However, her adviser, Roger Neal, divulged that Anita Pointer succumbed to cancer. He divulged:

“It is with sadness that I inform you that my client, Grammy winner Anita Pointer of the Pointer Sisters, has died following a heroic battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her family and died peacefully.”

The Pointer family, in a press release, said:

“While the loss of Anita deeply saddens us we take comfort in knowing that she is now with her daughter, Jada, sisters June and Bonnie, and most importantly, at peace. Heaven will be a more beautiful and kinder place with Anita there.”

For starters, Anita Pointer is the second-oldest of four sisters, and her siblings soared to fame with classics such as “Fire” and “Jump (For My Love.)”

"Yes We Can Can" was the smash song from the group's 1973 self-titled debut album. Between 1973 and 1985, the Pointer Sisters won three Grammys and had thirteen songs in the top twenty in the United States. In 1994, the group was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for their singles "I'm So Excited," "Slow Hand," "Neutron Dance," and "Jump (For My Love).

In 1975, their hit song Fairytale was awarded the Grammy for Best Country Vocal Performance. The victory is still uncommon in a category dominated by white artists.

The trio nearly split in 1979 when Bonnie Pointer quit seeking a solo career, but the surviving sisters rejoined and went on to abandon their antique look and adopt a more contemporary pop style.

Throughout the 1980s, they dominated the U.S. charts, and their classics, including “He's So Shy,” “Jump (For My Love),” and “Neutron Dance,” have withstood the test of time and are still widely streamed today.

However, Anita Pointer's personal life was tragic. In 2003, her only child, Jada Pointer, died at the age of 37 from cancer. She went on to raise Roxie McKain Pointer, her grandchild.

Meanwhile, reports suggested that Anita Pointer was worth $5 million at the time of her shocking death. Most of her wealth came from her singing career -- during the Pointer Sisters’ peak of success.

The group won two more Grammys, cementing their status as music icons. It was so successful that they were called to participate in the iconic recording of “We Are The World” with Michael Jackson, Tina Turner, Diana Ross, Bob Dylan and many other musicians.
