Anime Like Jujutsu Kaisen

It’s fair to say that Jujutsu Kaisen is one of the most popular shonen anime airing right now. Jujutsu Kaisen 0’s success shows that passion for the series is at an all-time high, and with Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 upcoming, fans have got a lot to get excited about! If you can’t wait for more action, we’ve got you covered with these anime like Jujutsu Kaisen.

  1. Demon Slayer

Chances are that if you’ve seen Jujutsu Kaisen, you’ve probably seen Demon Slayer. If you haven’t, this should be high on your watchlist!

Demon Slayer is set in historic Japan in a world where demons hide amongst humans. When Tanjirou’s family is killed by a demon and his sister turned into one herself, he vows to avenge their deaths and find a way to reverse his sister’s curse.

On his journey, Tanjirou discovers the Demon Slayer Corps, a shadow organisation that fights the demons, led by the mysterious Muzan Kibutsuji.

Demon Slayer shares many of the much-loved shonen tropes found in Jujutsu Kaisen. Tanjirou finds a group of friends who all develop together as they discover the fight between humans and demons is much more complex than first thought.

  2. Tokyo Ghoul

There are many similarities between Jujutsu Kaisen and Tokyo Ghoul, from characters and combat to worldbuilding and aesthetics. It’s highly likely that if you like one, you’ll enjoy the other.

Tokyo Ghoul follows Ken, a normal kid until an unfortunate encounter with a ghoul – flesh-eating humans – turns his serene life upside down. Transformed into a half-ghoul in a life-saving operation, Ken must suddenly acclimatise to life as part of a group vilified by the public and hunted by enforcers.

Compared to Jujutsu Kaisen, Tokyo Ghoul is slightly more melancholic, emphasising the divide between humans and ghouls whose choices are limited. However, both series share a penchant for excellent action sequences and superpowered characters.

  3. Bleach

One of the classic shounen anime that is a must-watch for almost everyone, Bleach has plenty to offer Jujutsu Kaisen fans.

Similar to Jujutsu Kaisen, Bleach stars a confident but ordinary high schooler whose life is changed when he is inadvertently forced into the world of Soul Reapers, people who send dangerous spirits to the afterlife.

Spanning hundreds of episodes, Bleach can present a daunting task for some anime fans. However, if you enjoy character and world development, there are few long-running series that do it as well as Bleach. Plus, it’s an awesome series visually, even to this day.

  4. Hunter x Hunter

Another classic anime series worth watching, Hunter x Hunter delivers all the fun and action you want and expect from a mainstream shounen anime.

The series is set in a world where Hunters are hired to perform various dangerous tasks, from finding rare artefacts to fighting powerful monsters. Young Gon becomes a Hunter in the hope of finding his father, a Hunter that went missing. He bands together with a group of Hunters who complete various missions while seeking answers to their personal questions.

Similar to Bleach, if you’re looking for a 12-episode anime series to tide you over until more Jujutsu Kaisen is released, then this might not be for you. However, it is a fun series to watch on the go, delivering plenty of fun and story development through its 100+ episodes.

  5. Kemono Jihen

If you’re looking for a slightly more niche series to enjoy, Kemono Jihen was highly praised when it was aired in 2021 and shares similar themes to Jujutsu Kaisen.

The story takes place in a world where beast-like monsters known as Kemono threaten humans from the shadows. Young Kabane is a farmhand in a remote village who is suddenly thrust into the world of the occult by Kohachi, a Kemono investigator.

Similar to Jujutsu Kaisen, Kemono Jihen uses many fantasy-action tropes but tries to present them in a darker tone. Kemono Jihen has excellent character development in its 12 episodes and is definitely recommended for fans of supernatural action anime.

  6. The God of Highschool

One of the most well-known anime based on Korean manhwa, The God of Highschool is a fast-paced series that delivers a simple but enjoyable experience for action fans.

The God of Highschool is a tournament, putting the strongest high school students in Korea into a fighting tournament where the winner will have any wish granted.

All weapons and styles are granted, which leaves the tournament with a whole host of different fighters.

The God of Highschool is of particular appeal to Jujutsu Kaisen fans because both series share the same animation studio and director. As a result, both shows’ action scenes have similar energy.

  7. Noragami

Arguably a must-watch fantasy action anime, Noragami is a classic series that shares very similar energy to Jujutsu Kaisen.

Noragami takes place in modern Tokyo, where gods fulfil jobs for people who visit their shrines in a parallel spirit world unseen by humans. Yato is a low-ranking god with dreams of making it big, but he gets mixed up with Hiyori, a girl who accidentally finds herself moving between the human and spiritual worlds.

Like Jujutsu Kaisen, Noragami perfectly toes the line between action and comedy. Both series find time to excel in both, delivering plenty of fun but also some serious moments and dark, well-developed storylines.

  8. Bungo Stray Dogs

One of the best action series of the last few years, Bungo Stray Dogs is a great choice for fans who want a grittier action fantasy that delivers exciting characters and intriguing plots.

The story follows Atsushi, an abandoned orphan who saves a man attempting to kill himself. It turns out that the man is Osamu Dazai, part of a secret supernatural detective agency, and when he returns the favour, Atsushi joins their ranks.

The series revolves around the various missions undertaken by the agency, most of which pit them against the dangerous Port Mafia that controls the city’s underworld.

Bungo Stray Dogs is an action-packed series with eye-catching characters and animation. While it might not have the depth of a series like Jujutsu Kaisen, it offers plenty of fun and intrigue to tide you over until its return.

  9. Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood

One of those must-watch shonen anime, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood delivers a fantastic story that will have you hooked.

Fullmetal Alchemist takes place in a world of alchemy, the deconstruction and reconstruction of various materials. When their mother dies, the two Elric brothers attempt the forbidden practice of human transmutation, only for them to pay the price.

Alphonse loses his body during the event, but his soul is attached to a suit of armor by his brother. The two of them then set out on a quest to recover Alphonse’s body, discovering a wide world of alchemy and similar failed experiments that leave a trail of destruction in their wake.

While the animation styles and worldbuilding in these series are quite different, both share similar protagonists. Fullmetal Alchemist is also an excellent character-driven action series, with a lot of focus put on individual wants and needs.

  10. Naruto

There are many fans that consider Jujutsu Kaisen to be the contemporary version of Naruto, which was first published in 1999.

The legendary long-running series follows Naruto Uzumaki as he attempts to become the best ninja in his homeland. However, he has to fight against his lack of talent and a permanent cold shoulder from everyone due to the demon sealed inside of him at birth.

Eventually, Naruto falls under the tutelage of Kakashi Hatake and begins his journey, going through various trials and tribulations across hundreds of anime episodes.

There are quite a few similarities between Jujutsu Kaisen and Naruto. For one, both series heavily feature combat and students learning under experienced tutelage. Both protagonists also have the strength of a powerful demon inside of them.

  11. Blue Exorcist

Blue Exorcist, similar to Jujutsu Kaisen, is a zero-to-hero story starring a demon hunter imbued with the power of the most powerful demon of them all.

The story revolves around Rin Okumura, a seemingly normal teenager until he discovers that he is the son of Satan. While his father tries to convince him to help him take over the world, Rin instead decides to join the world of exorcists who fight spirits to protect the human world.

There are similarities between Rin and Yuuji’s backstories – in both series, the protagonist is marked for execution by the side he is supporting. Blue Exorcist is slightly more colourful and childlike, but both offer a similar balance of comedy and action.

All the anime featured above are good series in their own right. Hopefully, you’ll find something here that will fill the Jujutsu-sized hole in your life!
