Andy Serkis Would Jump At The Chance To Reprise Lord of the Rings Role In New Project

Warner Bros. acquired new rights to produce new films for The Lord of the Rings franchise.

The new Middle-earth movies are reportedly expected to focus on J.R.R. Tolkien’s works that were missing from Peter Jackson’s original trilogy.

With remakes and reboots coming ‘round and about in Hollywood, a reboot for the LOTR franchise is not out of the question.

In fact, if given the chance, Gollum actor Andy Serkis would admittedly jump at the chance to reprise his role.

“I adore those guys and they are a second family to me,” Serkis said in a recent The Hollywood Reporter interview.

The Andor star added: “I’ve spent so many years making films with them. I love their sensibility and their take; it’s filmmaking on a different kind of level. You live and breathe it. And so, yes, if some opportunity were to come up, it would be an amazing thing.”

This is not the first time Serkis admitted to being interested in rejoining the franchise. In fact, previously, he specifically stated he would be more than happy to jump back in as long as the original crew were back in the game, too.

“[Producers] Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh, Philippa Boyens are sort of a second family that I have become a part of,” Serkis said.

He shared: “They are the best and most incredible people to work with [and if they’re doing the reboot], I would, of course, jump at the chance to have that relationship rekindled… Middle-earth has never left me.”

Although, Frodo actor Elijah Wood begged to disagree with Serkis in another interview, in which Wood hopes that the rebooting franchise is not merely being made for the sake of ‘cash grabs.’

“[The original trilogy] came out of a passion for these books and wanting to see them realized,” Wood said, “And I hope that that is ultimately what will drive [the reboot] forward with whatever these subsequent movies are.”

Meanwhile, you can stream the original The Lord of the Rings trilogy currently streaming on HBO Max.
