Andor Series Showrunner Says Prior Knowledge to Star Wars Isn't Necessary

The Star Wars franchise is easily one of the celebrated franchises out there but for some reason, it's not as popular or as mainstream as the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The reason for it most likely stems from the fact that the franchise is dominated by longtime fans and a newer generation of audiences find it hard to keep up with what's going on, despite the franchise having only 11 live-action films in total.

Well, to the "newer" fans who are still skeptical about watching Lucasfilm's upcoming Andor series, showrunner and producer Tony Gilroy assured viewers that prior knowledge about the Star Wars lore isn't necessary for the show. During the project's press conference (via The Direct), he explains how the Diego Luna-led series could be a newbie fan's official introduction to a galaxy far, far away.

He said: "And at the same time, there’s no secret; their partner, their boss, their girlfriend, their boyfriend, their mother, their father, there are a lot people that are Star Wars-adjacent or Star Wars-averse. And you should be able to watch our show… This could be your entry point to Star Wars. You could watch our 24 episodes, that could be your way in. We’re doing a show that does not require any prior knowledge whatsover to get involved…"

Well, it does make sense considering Andor is basically a prequel to Rogue One which was a prelude to the Skywalker saga. If you're new to Star Wars, the upcoming show is definitely the right way to start things.

Star Wars: Andor will have a triple-episode premiere on September 21, 2022.
