Amazon's Lord of the Rings Series Has Already Been Renewed for Season 2

It looks like Amazon went to the same school as Netflix when it comes to renewing shows for new seasons since the upcoming Lord of the Rings show has already been renewed for a second season. This comes off the heels after Netflix announced that The Witcher will get a second season, which is weird since neither show has released an episode yet. At least The Witcher has a trailer, which Amazon's Lord of the Rings is sorely lacking.

The report comes from Variety, who acknowledges its early renewal and claims that the show is currently in pre-production. It's going to be filmed in New Zealand, just like the previous Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit movies, though casting hasn't been finished yet. This is going to be a big series so it will be interesting to see what kind of names they can get for the project.

As we wait for more announcements regarding the series, we do know that the show won't cover the same ground as the movies, at least not yet. We're going to get more of the early material that neither Lord of the Rings nor The Hobbit have covered, which should make a lot of people happy.

Currently, Amazon's Lord of the Rings series doesn't have a set release date, though we wouldn't put it past them if the release is revealed sometime next year or in December.
